What is the High School Scholars Academy?

The Lenoir-Rhyne University High School Scholars Academy is a one year program (students are expected to attend for the full year) designed for high school students who seek an alternative opportunity for a full-time on campus experience during their Senior year. Students will enroll in English IV Honors plus three college courses in the fall, and AP English or an approved online course (if available) plus three more college courses in the spring. Students will also have access to the Rudisill Library, computer labs, fitness centers and athletic events.

Application Procedures
The High School Scholars Academy has 30 spaces for each school year. First preference for admission will be given to students enrolled in the Catawba County, Hickory Public, or Newton-Conover school systems. If there are still spaces remaining, we will consider applicants from private schools, home schools and other school systems. A waiting list will be established once the first thirty slots are filled. Factors considered for admission include (but are not limited to) high school GPA, courses taken in high school, SAT, ACT, PSAT, or PLAN scores, and high school or community involvement.

Course Registration
Upon admission to the program, students will preference courses in which they are interested in enrolling. Registration will occur in April. Students will have the opportunity to take courses in the following areas: Communication, Math, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Languages, Fine Arts, and Humanities.

Cost information update: 2015-2016 tuition for the program will be $1,310 per semester plus the cost of books and applicable course fees.
