The seminar on internet privacy originally scheduled at Lenoir-Rhyne University for this Friday (January 29), has been rescheduled for Friday, February 5. Presented by the School of Professional and Mathematical Studies, the seminar will take place at 7 p.m. in Belk Centrum. The title of the seminar is “The Death of Internet Privacy – What You Don’t Know Will Hurt You” and is being presented by Dr. Bjarne Berg, LR Professor in the Donald & Helen Schort School of Mathematics & Computing Sciences Department. The event is free and open to the public.
As part of his presentation, Dr. Berg will explore what information is captured every day through mobile and internet usage, and how this private information is being used by corporations such as banks, insurance companies and retailers. He will examine how individuals’ movements are tracked from where they live, work and travel, to what they read and purchase. Dr. Berg will also share several live examples of how tracking information can be hidden in your photos and internet browser, and will discuss how privacy laws are being applied in this new Information Revolution Age.
Dr. Berg is an internationally recognized expert in Business Intelligence (BI) and a frequent speaker at major BI and SAP (Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing - a multi-national software corporation) conferences worldwide. He has published articles in international BI journals and is the co-author of the book, "SAP HANA," published by SAP Press. Previously, Dr. Berg served as Senior Manager at Global System Solution Center in the EMEA and the Americas, the Director of BI at VIP Consulting in Palo Alto, CA, and the Vice President of IT at Comerit, a global consulting firm. As part of his teaching role, he is also a professor for the SAP University Alliance at LRU.
Dr. Berg holds a Ph.D. in IT from University of North Carolina and a Doctorate in Information Systems from the University of Sarasota, Florida. He also received a Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University. He attended the Norwegian Military Academy, and served as an officer in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
