Kimberly Sloop

Kimberly Sloop has more than 20 years of nursing experience with a background in oncology, palliative care and hospice.

Previous experience includes patient care at the bedside, charge nurse, preceptor, nurse educator and numerous committees at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina, from 2001-2015.

In 2015, Sloop began teaching undergraduate nursing students at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Academic responsibilities include teaching gerontology nursing, health assessment, coordination of clinical courses and student advising.

Research and professional development achievements include a phenomenological mini study in 2020, “Exploring the experiences of family caregivers of older adults with breathlessness in COPD,” a poster presentation “Enhancing Education in Palliative Care” in 2017 and authoring a column “Transition from Acute-Care to Academia” in the 2015 Oncology Nursing Society Piedmont Triad Chapter newsletter.

Sloop is a member of the Mu Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and has served as chapter counselor and president of the Mu Alpha Chapter at Lenoir-Rhyne.    

Sloop is honored to share nursing knowledge, quality care and advocacy for patients with student nurses. In 2019, she began doctoral studies in the nursing program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She looks forward to conducting research to influence the lives of others while contributing to nursing science, public policy mandates, innovation and optimal use of resources to enhance the quality of life for patients and caregivers.
