Stark brings enthusiastic leadership to the Spirit of LR Marching Band. The 80-member ensemble is an integral part of the game-day experience for LR sports and performs regularly in parades, including an appearance in the 2023 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C.

Among his other duties, Stark directs the university’s Wind Symphony and Ensemble, and he provides instruction in instrumental music. He also coordinates with local music educators and professional associations to promote LR’s music programs. Stark continues to innovate the wind band art form through diverse programming and engaging audiences by integrating modern audio-visual technology and staging.

Prior to joining LR, Stark held positions as director of bands at Central Cabarrus High School and as a graduate teaching associate and the instructional assistant for the University of Oklahoma marching band. He is an active Irish music scholar and performer, and his research seeks to find new ways to create collaborative and dialogic music teaching while fostering students’ listening skills. Stark is an active arranger for marching band music in North Carolina and presents his research in music education at regional and national conferences throughout the U.S.
