    Lenoir-Rhyne University has selected Summer McGee, Ph.D, as the institution’s 13th president. Her appointment was enthusiastically approved by the Lenoir-Rhyne Board of Trustees after a national search.

Microsoft 365

All students, faculty and staff have free access to Microsoft 365. 

Microsoft 365 includes the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Teams.

Microsoft products have long been part of higher education, and we are excited to provide this innovative software suite to you. These great tools and features continue to support an innovative future at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Accessing Microsoft 365

Your Microsoft 365 account is linked to your existing lr.edu account. You use the same email address and password that you use for the other university applications. You don’t need to log into every Office 365 application, they are all tied together.

Logging into Microsoft 365

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Log in using your full LR email for students (xxx.xxx@my.lr.edu) and faculty/staff (xxx.xxx@lr.edu).
  3. Once you enter your LR email, you will see a password screen with the LR background and logo.
  4. Enter your LR password (the same one you use for email), but only if you see the LR logo.
  5. Once you have successfully entered your login, you will be prompted to stay logged in. You can click "yes" or "no" and still access. But be aware that a yes will save your login information and my cause issues if we have multiple Microsoft accounts.
  6. Once logged in you will see files and documents you have been working on, a search field, options to install Office and all the Microsoft 365 apps.

If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, you can be logged in to several at once but if you have selected “keep me logged in” on an account you will be redirected automatically to that one. If you want to avoid that you can use Incognito mode or a private window to open a window that will never save that cache data.

Application Access

To the left side of your screen, you will see many icons that represent Microsoft applications that you have access. These are the most used applications, but if you click the last icon, you will be taken to a page with all apps and Tips and Tricks.

Downloading Microsoft Office

One of the best perks of your LR Microsoft 365 subscription is the access to download the Microsoft Office suite of applications on any device. You each have five downloads tied to your LR account that can be added to any device.

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Log in with LR email and password.
  3. Navigate to the top right of the page for the "Install Office" button.
  4. Follow the steps shown in the newly opened window following the download.

Microsoft offers a robust training programs and documentation for its Office applications. You can access this information from the home screen by clicking the question mark in the top right corner of the home page. Additional links are provided below.
