Alumnus improves Fritz-Conrad lounge

Growth and physical renovation are becoming common themes on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University. The most recent changes are occurring at the Fritz-Conrad residence hall.

The project originated with a request from the student body to provide more space for commuter students. Last summer, the university updated the interior with the addition of a Sandwich Shack restaurant, games and TVs. In a continued revitalization project at the residence halls, Fritz-Conrad's exterior is receiving a facelift with upgrades to the outdoor patio and façade of the north side of the building.

The university is excited to have the façade portion completed this fall as an in-kind gift from David Westcott '76, owner of Pierre Construction Group. Westcott is providing the framing with metal panels, updating the look for exterior of the Fritz-Conrad residence hall. "I really like the new gathering area for pre-game and other student events," said Westcott.

Other projects that David and Leigh (Brahams) '75 Westcott have contributed to on campus include the entrance canopy over the walkway for the Health Sciences Center and the radiused sunscreen at the Minges building entrance.

"It has been great to give back to the college where I learned life skills and made lasting relationships. Leigh and I have amazing memories of our time on campus," Westcott said.

"I have enjoyed working with the LR team and look forward to a continued partnership with the college as they upgrade other buildings on campus."

The student experience is at the center of the strategic plan, "Pivoting to a New Level of Excellence," launched in 2019. This is just one of many initiatives in progress.

"It's exciting to see the university's strategic plan continue to come alive through projects that benefit everyone at Lenoir-Rhyne," said Leah Beth Hubbard, special assistant for strategic initiatives at LR.
