Winter Storm Warning - Jan. 10-11

While we look forward to the start of the spring semester and the arrival of students to campus, we also are following the weather forecast, which includes a Winter Storm Warning for the Hickory area from Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 a.m. to Saturday, Jan. 11 at 7 a.m.

  • New & Returning Students - To minimize potential disruptions and ensure student safety, please note the important updates below.
  • Faculty & Staff - Please note that a remote workday is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 11 for non-essential employees. Please see below for more details.

We will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and provide updates to students, faculty and staff as they become available. Please check your LR email and the Lenoir-Rhyne University website for the latest information.

We do not anticipate any changes to the start of classes on Monday, Jan. 13. Should that change, we will communicate via email and the LR website.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

  • New Undergraduate Students (Residential and Commuter)
    • Check-in for new students moving into the residence halls will occur Friday, Jan. 10, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Cromer Center. This will proceed as originally scheduled, and you will be able to move into your room. Given the Winter Storm Warning for Jan. 10-11, please also review other alternative dates/times for move-in.
    • Other alternative dates/times for move-in include Saturday, Jan. 11, from 1-4 p.m. or Sunday, Jan. 12, from 1-4 p.m. Check-in will still occur in the Cromer Center.
    • In lieu of in-person orientation programming on Friday, we will hold a drop-in hour for questions with the Director of Admission from 1-2 p.m. Zoom access information was shared with new students via email.
    • We do not anticipate any changes to the start of classes on Monday, Jan. 13. Should that change, we will communicate via email and on the LR website.
    • Please plan to stop by and visit Lohr Hall on the first day of class, Jan. 13. This will be an important opportunity to ensure you are set for the upcoming semester and will also be your chance to pick up your swag!
    • If you do not have a course schedule at this time, please contact your admission counselor ASAP.

Please contact your admission counselor directly with any questions.

  • Returning Residential Undergraduate Students
    • The residence halls will open to returning undergraduate students on Saturday, Jan. 11. To minimize potential disruptions and ensure your safety, we strongly encourage those students whose move-in plans are flexible to consider moving into their residence halls on Sunday instead of Saturday.
    • If your move-in plans are not flexible and you must move in on Friday or Saturday, you will be able to, but please be prepared for potential inclement weather conditions. This may include delays in your travel and poor driving conditions.
  • Faculty & Staff - Remote Workday on Friday, Jan. 10 (HKY, AVL, COL)

We are following the forecast for Winter Storm Cora, which is expected to bring snow, ice and sleet to Hickory, Asheville and Columbia from Friday to Saturday.

As a result, we will implement a remote workday for employees tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 10. Essential personnel are expected to report to work as scheduled. If you are unsure whether your position is considered essential, please contact your direct supervisor for clarification.

We will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and provide updates as they become available.

Please check your email and LR website for the latest information.
