Liz Cox is new assistant V.P. of development

Lenoir-Rhyne University announces the appointment of Liz Cox as new assistant vice president of development.

As a leader in the advancement division at LR, she'll help the university meet its goal of creating a transformational experience for students.

"Ultimately, my goal is to continue to be a worthy steward and trust for the resources our donors share with us," she said. "My passion has always been to help donors see their philanthropic passions come to fruition."

A graduate of Luther College in Iowa, Cox has spent the last two years as a major gifts officer at Lenoir-Rhyne. She is also working toward a master's degree in university leadership at LR.

"Liz is passionate about Lenoir-Rhyne and the transformational liberal arts education it offers students," said Cat Serrin Niekro, vice president for advancement. "I am thrilled to have her in this role at such a critical time for LR as we implement a new strategic plan focused on the student experience."

As the assistant vice president of development, Cox oversees major gifts, annual giving, capital campaigns and corporate and foundation fundraising. She began her current position July 6.

In 2019, Lenoir-Rhyne raised more than $14.5 million that went to student and faculty support and experiential learning opportunities, as well as the improvement of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.

"President (Fred) Whitt is a phenomenal leader, and I'm excited about carrying out his vision," Cox said. "I'm looking forward to working with our Bears family, faculty, staff, alumni, students and friends. I love the trajectory we're going in across all three campuses."

Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Cox served in development positions at Davidson College and Guilford College in North Carolina, as well as at her alma mater and in the nonprofit sector.

Cox and her husband, Steve, are also raising two sons ages 3 years old and 5 months.
