Grant funding awarded to further support improvements on campus

Lenoir-Rhyne University recently received multiple grants totaling $550,000 in support of continued efforts to improve the on-campus experience for students, faculty, staff and community members through new construction and renovations.

Provided by the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trusts of Concord, North Carolina, $450,000 will allow for the replacement of both P.E. Monroe’s heat and air units in the auditorium itself – as the current unit leaks, breaks regularly and is located in a hard-to-access location. The old unit will be relocated to another part of campus and positioned for easier access for repairs and maintenance.

On the Columbia campus, funds totaling $100,000 were awarded to the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary for HVAC upgrades to the Voigt Building and Price House. The primary classroom and faculty office, the Voigt Building is experiencing leaks and malfunctions with the current air and heat unit. The plans are to remove window air-conditioning units and replace them with mini-split heat pump units at Price House, which houses the Offices of the Rector and Dean and Administration.

“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trusts,” said Cat Serrin Niekro, vice president of institutional advancement. “Their funding will enable us to significantly improve these important spaces on the Hickory and Columbia campuses that are used by the entire LR community.”

The implementation of these upgrades is scheduled to begin immediately.

Based in Concord, North Carolina, The Cannon Foundation and the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trusts were established to carry on the charitable works of Mr. Charles A. Cannon, president and chairman of Cannon Mills Company.
