Invested in students and their futures
MBA graduate and mother of four returned to school for career-advancing opportunities
When Lee Vue, MBA ’23, decided a graduate degree was the right path to expand her options to advance her career, she found the program at Lenoir-Rhyne University fit her needs.
“I got my bachelor’s degree in public health, but by the time I was finished, I wanted a new challenge and a degree that would be more adaptable in the job market, that would open more options,” said Vue. “My goal was to move into a position with growth potential, to secure a thriving future for myself and for my children.”
For the working mother of four, flexible scheduling, personalized support and practical coursework drew her to the MBA program at Lenoir-Rhyne. Her online classes allowed her full collaboration with both classmates and faculty for a rich learning experience that was also convenient and accessible.
“My mom and dad are a wonderful support system who have made it possible for me to balance my work, family and studies,” Vue explained. “But my professors have been phenomenal as well. If anyone in the class has a family emergency or something else comes up – the professors are always ready to work with us to make sure we’re still engaged with the class.”
Clear and open lines of communication with her professors, as well as university staff who were ready to assist and answer her questions, also played an instrumental role in Vue’s success in the program.
“It seems like such a little thing, but it makes a big difference when you send an email and get a response the same day. That kind of attention wasn’t something I’d experienced before coming to LR,” Vue observed. “I felt like everyone from my professors to the financial aid office was invested in me, and it let me focus on my family and my classes instead of focusing on stress.”
Vue completed her MBA in December 2023 and anticipates the same level of support and commitment to her success will continue as she works with the Alex Lee Career and Professional Development Center to move forward in the job market.
“You don’t know what the future is going to hold, so I wanted to continue my education and build a skillset that could apply across industries,” said Vue. “I have my undergraduate background in public health, and I’ve worked with coding and technology. Now I’ve added human resource management, communication, marketing – it’s a versatile tool kit, and I’m ready for the next phase of my career.”
