Library Assistant (PT, Temporary)


Location: Columbia, South Carolina

Part-Time, Temporary (15 to 20 hours per week)
August 2024 - December 2024

The Lineberger Library on Lenoir-Rhyne's Columbia campus is seeking to hire a temporary, part-time staff member to assist with service desk duties and preparing for the library’s move to the Hickory campus. This would be an excellent opportunity for a library student seeking experience in an academic or special library.

Specific Job Functions

  • Provide reference services at the library service desk in person, over the phone and through email
  • Assist patrons in accessing electronic resources from the library website
  • Circulation duties include creating and updating patron records, checking materials in and out, etc.
  • Assist patrons with technology troubleshooting, including desktop computers, personal laptops and library printers/scanners.
  • Assist in handling and boxing books in preparation for the library collection's move  
  • Assist in shelving library materials

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous experience working in a library setting is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to lift approximately 35lbs and push approximately 50lbs
  • Requires sitting, standing and kneeling
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress call numbers is preferred.
