Gordon Cappelletty

Gordon Cappelletty is an associate professor of psychology who joined the Lenoir-Rhyne faculty in 2011. He previously was an adjunct professor in the Lenoir-Rhyne counseling program for 10 years.

Cappelletty completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Leon S. Peters Neurological Retraining Center at Fresno Community Hospital and Medical Center and completed his post-doctoral training in community clinical psychology with the Fresno County Department of Mental Health.

Previously, he worked with the California juvenile court systems and was a part-time instructor until he moved to Hickory to become a clinical director with Mental Health Services of Catawba County. In that role, he created Family NET and served as its clinical director integrating medical, psychological and social welfare models to deliver services to children with significant mental and emotional problems.

Cappelletty's current research interests include the role of religious beliefs on moral decisions and life choices and the factors affecting resiliency in children who have suffered abuse, neglect and maltreatment.

Cappelletty involves students in all aspects of his work at Lenoir-Rhyne. His students have presented research results at regional and national psychology conferences in Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville and Washington, D.C.

In 2017, Cappelletty received the Lenoir-Rhyne Faculty Scholar Award, which is presented to the faculty member who has made the greatest contribution to his/her discipline during the academic year.
