Graduate Assistant, Asheville Counseling Program
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
The primary responsibilities of this program assistant will involve supporting the internal operations of the counseling program and providing support for the faculty, including the following:
- Coordination of program-sponsored events, including AACPA (Asheville Area Counseling Professionals Association) meetings, continuing education workshops and professional development offerings for students (e.g., creating and distributing flyers, room scheduling, coordinating with CSI honor society on co-sponsored events, managing CEU documentation).
- Assistance with projects that will support efficient operations of the counseling program, such as organizing a guide to practicum/internship sites, updating/editing program handbooks and creating and maintaining surveys required for CACREP accreditation (e.g., program surveys on elective interests, alumni surveys).
- Support the clinical coordinator with maintaining site documentation.
- Assistance with data management, including score reports for the comprehensive exams and student liability insurance verification.
- Represent the program to prospective students in coordination with the admission team.
- Assistance with accreditation-related projects, such as running reports, compiling data and editing program forms and documents.
- Assistance with projects that will support the growth and development of the program, including community outreach and professional development opportunities that would benefit both current students and the local counseling community.
- Assistance with faculty research projects.
- Assistance with administrative duties of Asheville Center (creating student/faculty ID badges, coordinating room assignments, helping with IT issues).
- Other duties as assigned (e.g., general administrative support, updating program textbook list, ordering instructor copies).
Preferred Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled or accepted/deposited as a graduate student at LR; a first or second-semester MA in counseling student willing to commit for two years is preferred.
- A willingness to work a flexible schedule depending on daily/weekly needs.
- Professional phone, email and face-to-face communication skills.
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational and data management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others in a small office environment.
- Self-reliant and proactive; ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Commitment and passion for the counseling profession and enthusiasm about sharing this impression with prospective students, local counselors and site supervisors.
- Proficient in MS Office products, including the ability to make professional flyers.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Strong sense of and commitment to confidentiality.
