Production Manager


This position provides and manages event management and technical support for all events supported by Conferences and Events (C&E) at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Supervise the event production assistant and student workers for Conferences & Events.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Responsibilities of the Production Manager include:

  1. Serve as venue manager of all Conference & Events performing arts venues (P.E. Monroe, Belk Centrum and Grace Chapel), to include approval of space use requests in event scheduling software where appropriate.
  2. Serve as point of contact for LR offices and units using C&E-managed performing arts venues on campus.
  3. Implement and monitor safety and fire prevention practices in all C&E event spaces.
  4. Ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations for productions managed through Conference & Events (for example, ADA guidelines, copyright laws, safety guidelines, etc.)
  5. Oversee, operate and maintain all sound, lighting, rigging and other stage equipment in all C&E managed venues on campus.
  6. Serve as lead technician in facilities supported by Conferences & Events, communicating through event reports to ensure problems are corrected.
  7. Hire, train, manage and supervise Conference & Events production student employee staff.
  8. Maintain database of work study students 
  9. Maintain database of outside contractors; hire and manage contractors; and ensure invoicing and payments for contractors as needed for events on campus in C&E managed venues
  10. Serve as technical liaison between LR Departments and internal and external groups using spaces for events.
  11. Serve as technical advisor and review technical riders for all artists, speakers and groups using Conference & Events facilities.
  12. Staff events as required/needed; other duties as assigned.

Position Benefit

Benefits are as described in the "LR Non-Academic Employee Handbook" for a regular full-time employee. This is a salaried position, exempt from overtime pay.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor’s Degree required. Must have comprehensive knowledge and experience in sound and production management. Must have proficient managerial skills. Must possess good customer service and time management skills and a strong knowledge/background in theatre production. Must have positive attitude and provide assistance in a professional and courteous manner. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift 60 lbs.
