• Return to Normal University Operations on Thursday, Feb. 20

Lenoir-Rhyne University will return to normal university operations on Thursday, Feb. 20, at our all of our campus locations—Hickory, Columbia and Asheville. Classes will resume as scheduled, and all offices will be open.

UPDATE: Feb. 20, 9:15 a.m. (from Academic Affairs)
Due to the recent weather changes in Hickory, you may opt to move your classes to remote delivery today if you have concerns about safely traveling to campus. If you choose to hold classes remotely, please notify your students and your dean as soon as possible.

For those holding in-person classes, we ask that you exercise flexibility with attendance policies, understanding that some students may face transportation challenges or safety concerns. Students should not feel compelled to risk unsafe travel conditions to attend class.

Please communicate your teaching plans to your students and your dean.

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring everyone's safety while maintaining academic continuity.

Graduate Assistantships

We strive to ensure that our graduate students are able to afford continued education. The helpful staff at LR are here to provide financial aid information, flexible payment plans and other options to help you achieve your most ambitious goals.

A graduate assistant (GA) is part-time position (no more than 20 hours of work per week), that provides employment experience and the benefit of partial-tuition remission. In most, but not all cases, 15 free credit hours of tuition are provided to the GA for the duration of the position appointment period, which is typically August 1-July 31.

Please Note: You must be enrolled as a graduate student at Lenoir-Rhyne to apply for a GA position. All of the following GA positions are offered on the Hickory campus unless otherwise noted.

A limited number of graduate assistantships (GAs) are available for eligible students.

To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Students must be accepted into a graduate program
  • Students must have a current resume and/or GA application on file with The Graduate School
  • Students must not be receiving any additional institutional aid (including athletic scholarships)
  • Students cannot hold another working position on campus

The awarding of a GA position is NOT need-based. It is a highly competitive process based on the positions available in a given academic year and the skills that a GA area's supervisor values. An area supervisor selects GA candidates.
