Tropical Storm Debby Weather Updates

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to continue to affect North Carolina and South Carolina through this week, based on National Hurricane Center predictions. While the exact impact for our three locations—Hickory, Columbia and Asheville—is not certain, Debby may bring heavy rain over the next few days.

At this time, there is no change to university operations on the Hickory or Asheville campuses. The Columbia campus faculty and staff have been working remotely due to heavy rain accumulations.

Should conditions change, we will communicate information on www.lr.edu, as well as through email, university social media, and Rave Alert, our emergency notification system. Please take this opportunity to ensure your information is updated in Rave using the directions below.

In preparation for any possible weather emergency, please consider the following:

  • Make sure all of your devices are fully charged, in the event of a power outage.
  • Follow weather conditions using the app or online site of your choosing.
  • If you are commuting long distances to your campus, be sure to check safety conditions close to home. If weather conditions near your home differ from campus, follow safety recommendations where you are and alert your professors or supervisors.

Rave Alert Directions

Our emergency notification system is Rave Alert. In order to verify and update your information, please log into the system at www.getrave.com/login/lr using your existing LR username and password and this should take you to your user page. Your LR email should already be in the system. You can add any phone numbers and email addresses to which you would like to receive emergency messages.  Once you have entered your phone numbers you can click on the TEST tab to verify that the system is working for your numbers.

This is our primary means to send emergency messages, so we recommend that you update and verify your information as soon as possible. You can also log-in as often as you need to, to update or verify your information.  If the system does not allow you to log-in, please contact Larry Waters at larry.waters@lr.edu or call the Hickory campus Office of Public Safety at 828.328.7146.
